DON MATSUURA, MD
Board Certified Cardiologist - Hilo
Dr. Don Matsuura is a board-certified cardiologist based in Hilo, Hawai‘i. Born and raised in the plantation town of Kahuku on O‘ahu’s North Shore, he graduated from Kahuku High School before earning his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Utah. He went on to complete a PhD in Physiology at the University of Hawai‘i, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at UCLA’s Department of Physiology.
Pursuing a later calling to medicine, Dr. Matsuura earned his MD from the John A. Burns School of Medicine in Honolulu. He completed his internship, internal medicine residency, and cardiology fellowship at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, California.
Dr. Matsuura returned to Hawai‘i to make Hilo his home, where he served the community and Hilo Medical Center for over 40 years in private practice. Since closing his practice in October 2022, he continues to care for patients part-time with Hawai‘i Heart Associates.
