Amy Hanapi, DNP, APRN, FNP-C

Hilo, HAWAII Clinic

Amy is a local girl, raised in Hilo. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a focus on Criminology from UH Manoa. During this college experience, she was fortunate to be able to live in Australia for a year, studying, and travelling around Australia, Aotearoa, and Bali. Upon graduation, she worked with children with severe Autism and accompanying behavioral and developmental disorders. She also became a Licensed Massage Therapist. When she realized how beneficial and healing massage therapy was for her Autism spectrum students, she decided to further her healthcare education. She moved home to Hilo, and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, graduating with highest honors from UH Hilo.

Amy worked as a Registered Nurse in both Washington State and Hawai'i, including working at Queen's Medical Center Punchbowl and Queen's North Hawai'i Community Hospital. She had 13 years of extensive and diverse nursing experience in Emergency Room, Critical Care and ICU, Cardiac ICU, Labor and Delivery, OR Circulation, and stabilization of critical newborns. She was among the first cohort admitted to the UH Hilo Doctor of Nursing Practice program and ultimately graduated with her DNP degree in Family Nurse Practitioner. She is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She worked as a Primary Care Provider here in Hilo for about 5 years before joining Hawai'i Heart Associates. She is excited to be able to focus on cardiology again and continue serving her home community of East Hawai'i.

Amy is also a part-time lecturer for the UH Hilo nursing program. When she is not working, Amy loves spending time with her family and fur babies and is an amateur monarch butterfly breeder. She enjoys travelling, being outdoors, and home improvement projects. She loves horror movies and true crime, and, for half of the year, is overly invested in the NFL and her fantasy football team.
