Dr. Ryan Smith, DO

Dr. Ryan Smith, DO started with Hawaii Heart Associates in 2021 as one of the founding cardiologists.  Prior to that he served in the United States Army for 15 years as an internal medicine physician and cardiologist to include two deployments to Afghanistan with the 10th Mountain and 101st Airborne Divisions.

He graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and went on to train at Tripler Army Medical Center as well as the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for cardiology fellowship.  In addition to his medical degree, Dr. Smith graduated with a business degree from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA.

Within the field of cardiology, he has an interest in pacemaker and ICD implantation, echocardiography, and cholesterol management.

It is a personal goal of his to start the first primary prevention cholesterol clinic in Hawaii as well as advance awareness for sudden cardiac death and CPR training/AED education in the community.

Outside of his professional practice, he enjoys golfing, surfing, diving and running.  This past year, he completed his fourth marathon with hopes to continue that tradition yearly.

Dr. Amanda Marn, MD, FACC

Dr. Amanda Marn, MD is a board-certified, licensed cardiologist practicing in Maui. She graduated with honors from Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed her cardiology fellowship at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

She served for over 11 years in the United States Army and then moved to Hawaii where she provided care for active-duty military at Tripler Army Medical Center. Dr. Marn eventually transitioned to civilian practice and helped found Hawaii Heart Associates where she provides high quality inpatient and outpatient cardiac care for the residents of Maui. She is passionate about empowering her patients and family members to learn CPR, as it can be an invaluable tool in saving someone’s life.

Dr. Marn met her local boy husband when she lived in Honolulu and they ultimately decided to move to Maui to start their family. They are both animal and nature enthusiasts who, whenever possible, escape to upcountry for cooler weather and hiking with their young daughter.

Dr. Marn is currently affiliated with Maui Memorial Medical Center.

June Belvis, AGACNP-BC, MBA

June Belvis is a board-certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner practicing in Hawaii. She was born in the Philippines and grew up in Canada where she completed her bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of Alberta.  She worked as a surgical and cardiovascular ICU nurse at Kaiser Permanente Moanalua, Straub Medical Center and Tripler Army Medical Center. After completing her MBA, she worked for fifteen years in the Cardiac Rhythm Management Division for Boston Scientific as a Principal Field Clinical Representative. 

She graduated from Walden University Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program. She completed her clinical rotations in Internal Medicine and Gerontology at Queens Medical Center and General Surgery at Pali Momi Medical Center. 

Currently, she specializes in pacemaker, internal cardiac defibrillator (ICD) and Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT) in-clinic and remote management. Her intensive training in the cardiac rhythm industry has developed her technical expertise in device reprogramming and optimization. 

Outside of her professional practice, she dances hula with Ka Pa Hula Hawaii. She has been a volunteer with Aloha Medical Mission for 20 years with a focus on international surgical-medical missions primarily in the Philippines and Nepal.

Marc Hunt, MD, FACC

Dr. Marc Hunt, MD is a board-certified cardiologist practicing in Hawaii.  He is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and completed his cardiology fellowship at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.  He is an invasive cardiologist experienced in the management of pacemakers & defibrillators and multiple forms of diagnostic testing to include cardiac catheterization, cardiac CT angiography and echocardiography.  Dr. Hunt champions the shared decision-making model of health care emphasizing patient centered care and patient autonomy combined with emphasis on lifestyle changes and the latest evidenced based medicine to produce the best individualized plan of care for each patient.   

Dr. Hunt has returned to Hawaii and transitioned to civilian practice following 25 years of service in the Army to include thirteen years of service at Tripler Army Medical Center and seven years of service at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany.  During his time in the military, he was blessed with the opportunity to direct and participate in multiple medical missions to the Republic of Palau and Federated States of Micronesia, challenged by the opportunities to serve in Iraq & at the Pentagon in the immediate aftermath of 911 and earned the opportunity to lead multiple healthcare services.

Outside of his professional practice, he enjoys traveling, cooking and paddle boarding in addition to a variety of other exercises.  He emulates the healthy cardiovascular lifestyles that he emphasizes and promotes in his clinical practice.   

He is currently licensed in Hawaii and Texas and is affiliated with Adventist Health Castle Hospital.

Dr. Don Matsuura

Dr. Don Matsuura is a board-certified cardiologist living in Hilo, Hawaii.  He was born and raised on the North Shore in Kahuku, Oahu, a sugar plantation town. Upon graduation from Kahuku High School, he completed his undergraduate studies at University of Utah to earn a Bachelor of Science degree.  He returned to Hawaii to enroll in the graduate program in Physiology at the University of Hawaii for the next three years and completed the PhD program.  A two-year postdoctoral fellowship followed at the UCLA Department of Physiology in Los Angeles, California.

Medicine was a later decision and he enrolled at the John Burns School of Medicine in Honolulu, Hawaii and completed their MD program.  He returned to California and completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine and Cardiology fellowship at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach.

Hilo became his home, and he spent his next 40 years practicing cardiology in the community and at Hilo Medical Center.  In October 2022, he closed his practice and is presently working part-time for Hawaii Heart Associates.

Jeremy Docekal, MD, FACC

Dr. Jeremy W Docekal, MD is a board-certified cardiologist practicing in Hawaii. He received a bachelor’s in marine engineering from New York Maritime College. Following graduation, Dr. Docekal initially worked for Knolls Atomic Power Laboratories, where was tasked with the training of active-duty Navy sailors in the operation of shipboard nuclear propulsion. However, after deciding upon a change in career, Dr. Docekal matriculated at Albany Medical College, where he graduated with honors. He completed Internal Medicine Residency at Tripler Army Medical Center, and completed his cardiology fellowship at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

He currently serves actively in the United States Army, and plans to transition to civilian practice in Hilo, Hawaii.

Outside of work, Dr. Docekal may be found trying to keep up with a precocious 5-year-old daughter. He is also known to be a very dedicated, but entirely unsuccessful fisherman. Lastly, he has been a member of Shobukan Judo club for many years, so don’t be alarmed if he has an occasional black eye; the other guy always looks better.
